Carlos Gould is an incoming Stanford Earth Postdoctoral Fellow. He recently defended his PhD in Environmental Health Sciences at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Carlos’s research combines epidemiology, exposure science, and household surveys to enhance our understanding of how to reduce household air pollution by promoting the use of clean cooking technologies. His research aims to inform the design of policies and interventions that will improve human health by encouraging cleaner environments. His dissertation work focused on characterizing the health benefits of Ecuador’s historical transition from firewood to gas cooking facilitated by long-term subsidies.
